August 18, 2025
When it comes to theShield Tablet,NVIDIAhas done a great job at providing timely software updates thus far. Just a few weeks after Android 5.0 Lollipop was announced, NVIDIA wasone of the firstto roll the update out to their devices. It looks like the company would like to uphold their reputation, as they just posted the changelog for the new Android 5.0.1 update.Android 5.0.1hasn’t been out formore than a few weeks, so this is a pretty timely update on NVIDIA’s part.
Most of the update is filled with minor bug fixes and small changes, but there are some notable improvements that stand out. One in particular is the ability to customize your power control menu. InAndroid 5.0, Google removed the ability to put your device in Airplane Mode and Silent Mode using the shortcut by holding the power button. NVIDIA has added those options back with the update, as well as the addition of a Restart option, which will likely be a welcome feature among users. The Camera Awesome app is getting a few new effects for photos and videos. NVIDIA is also including some general performance enhancements, specifically when it comes to switching between apps.

Take a look at the rest of the changelog here:
This is a pretty decent update to the Shield Tablet, and it’s nice to see NVIDIA throw in some of their own enhancements in a timely fashion. The update should be rolling out soon, so head to your Settings menu to check!
