DJI Mavic Air announced: the drone you were waiting for?

The top drone manufacturer in the world took the wraps off a new machine this morning— the all-new DJI Mavic Air. A folding drone designed for portability, it offers the best of what DJI has to offer. The best part? It can be yours by the end of the month.
In short, the new DJI Mavic Air is a step up from theDJI Sparkand a tiny step down from theMavic Pro. There is a happy place in between the Spark and the Mavic Pro, and DJI calls it the Mavic Air.

DJI Mavic Air overview
DJI has made a name for itself in the drone market, and in a little over a year, it has focused on smaller, portable drones that are safe and able to fly via the Android app. The Mavic Pro started the trend, followed by the Spark.
It is perhaps easier to describe the new Mavic Air compared to the previous drones, instead of just listing specs. We’ll make it quick, don’t worry.
The new DJI Mavic Air folds up like the Mavic Pro. Also like the Pro, it offers a 1/2.3-inch camera sensor with 12 MP photo resolution and 4K video at 30 fps. The 3-axis-stabilized camera shoots up to 100 Mbps of data, which is a major bump over the 60 Mbps of the Mavic Pro. You’ll see what I mean when we publish our comparison video.
The Mavic Air is smaller than the Mavic Pro, but not as small as the Spark… at least not when unfolded. When folded, however, you’ll be able to slip the Mavic Air in your coat pocket. At 430 grams, you’ll barely notice it’s there.
When we talk about the DJI Spark, the biggest selling point is the ability to fly the drone via hand gestures. The Mavic Air not only offers hand gestures, but also several new flying modes, extra flight distance, and the ability to take off from and land on the ground. You can also fly via the DJI GO 4 app for Android and by using the dedicated remote control.
Price and availability
The DJI Spark runs about $500, while the Mavic Pro about $1,000. As it splits the difference in other ways, so too does the Mavic Air split the price. Available for pre-order today,grab the DJI Mavic Air for $799. You can also upgrade to the Fly More combo for $999, which includes extra batteries, a carrying case, and other handy accessories.
