Dungeons & Dragons returns to mobile with Warriors of Waterdeep

Dungeons & Dragons will head to mobile in the form ofWarriors of Waterdeep, thanks to a partnership between mobile game publisher Ludia and Hasbro subsidiary Wizards of the Coast.

Designed as a free-to-play turn-based RPG,Warriors of Waterdeeplets you choose one character from one of the 12 classes and nine races. As of this writing, the roster includes the following:

Familiar characters like Larael Silverhand and Yawning Portal Inn proprietor Durnan will give you quests and run the in-game shop, while Mirt the Moneylender will show up to run card trades.

you’re able to use cards to upgrade your characters, which can either be bought in card packs or attained by completing story chapters and defeating certain bosses. You can either merge duplicate cards for better effects or trade duplicate cards for new packs.

According toVentureBeat, characters can have up to 12 different pieces of armor, six weapons, four class items, and four wondrous items.

The storyline is nebulous, though monsters like dragons and ogres will attempt to impede your progress. Also, you will make choices that affect which enemies you face.

Warriors of Waterdeepis not the first Dungeons & Dragons game for mobile. Wizards of the Coast teamed up with DeNA to releaseArena of Warin 2013, though the game shut down in 2014. If you want to get your Dungeons & Dragons fix on the go, the only mobile title available is the digital adaptation of the Lords of Waterdeep board game.

We will learn of Waterdeeponce it soft-launches sometime this spring in beta. A wider release will follow later this year on the App Store andPlay Store, though you may pre-register for the game at the link below.
