Expect quarterly security updates from now on for these Xiaomi phones

June 10, 2025

Xiaomi has refreshed asupport document(h/tXDA) detailing how often security updates will arrive on devices across its core and sub-brands. The document includes phones under its own Mi banner, as well as the Redmi and POCO series.

“We release monthly and quarterly security patch updates on Xiaomi devices for at least two years after product listing in the marketplace,” Xiaomi confirms in the document. “Monthly and quarterly security updates will include Android security patches released by Google, as well as patches for Xiaomi-specific issues.”

For now, only three devices are listed as candidates for monthly updates, namely the Mi A3, Mi A2, and Mi A2 Lite. There are 60 listed devices set to receive quarterly updates, including the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max,POCO X3 NFC, andXiaomi Mi 11 Ultra.

It’s unclear how concrete this list is, though. There are a few glaring model omissions from key product lines. While the Mi 11 Ultra is present, the Mi 11 and Mi 11 Pro are not. The Mi 10 Ultra and the entireRedmi K30 seriesare also nowhere to be seen despite the Mi 10 Pro and Redmi K20 series making the list. The Mi A3 is also listed in the quarterly update list, but this does seem to be a misprint.

Xiaomi notes that the “current monthly and quarterly security patch updates may not be released at the fixed intervals, as in some cases the security patch updates are included in our regular OS updates.” It has, however, confirmed that “regular OS updates will include up-to-date security patches when delivered.”
