Fitbit OS 2.0 rolling out to the Fitbit Ionic: Here’s what’s new

June 16, 2025

One of the best things about the upcomingFitbit Versasmartwatch is its vastly improved software. Now that software ismaking its wayto theFitbit Ionic.

The biggest new feature in Fitbit OS 2.0 is called Fitbit Today — a much more intuitive and informative dashboard that displays all your health and fitness data. Swiping up from the clock face will pull up Fitbit Today, giving you quick access to daily and weekly health and fitness stats, historical activity, and recent exercises.

Also new in this update is the ability to add Deezer playlists to your Fitbit Ionic.

Quite a few usability improvements are being added too:

The version 27.32.4.19 update does not feature Fitbit’s female health tracking feature. That isn’t arriving until Spring 2018. Additionally,Fitbitwill introduce reminders, celebrations, logging, insights, sleep summaries, and social challenges to the Versa and Ionic sometime in 2018, though an exact release date has yet to be revealed.

What I’m most excited about, however, is the fact that Fitbit OS 2.0 feltso smoothon the Versa compared to Fitbit OS on the Ionic. A Fitbit representative toldAndroid Authoritythat there aren’t many drastic changes under the hood between the two devices, so we can infer that this v2.0 update will help the Ionic get rid of some of its stutters and lag.

Unfortunately you might have to wait to update your watch. Fitbit says it’s only rolling out the update to 10% of Ionic users at this time, with the full rollout wrapping up within a few weeks’ time. To update your watch, open the Fitbit app, tap theAccountbutton, and clickUpdate. If you don’t see the update option, the new software version isn’t yet available for your device.

We haven’t received the update on our smartwatch yet, but we’ll be sure to report back once we receive it.
