Fresh LG Velvet leak puts final nail in the LG G9’s coffin
July 10, 2025
We’re just over a week away from theLG Velvet launchand we already know plenty about LG’s brand new flagship. However, there’s bad news for those still holding out hope that this new phone could live alongside the LG G series.
Leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) hasshared an official renderof the LG Velvet taken from the Wireless Power Consortium. There’s not too much to say about the render — it’s the same phone we saw in anofficial LG video, no less— but Blass also shared the model number: LM-G900N.

For those unfamiliar with LG’s model names, the company’s V series and G series devices traditionally follow the LM-VXXX and LM-GXXX formats respectively. For example, theLG V60has the model number LM-V600 and the vanillaLG G8is LM-G820.
The fact that LG has co-opted the G series numbering format for its fresh “mass-market flagship” could be the final nail in the coffin for any hope of an LG G9.

There’s still plenty to be excited about, though. The LG Velvet is aesthetically the most interesting LG flagship since perhaps theLG G5. It’s also packing the mid-tierSnapdragon 765Gchipset, and it’ll be fascinating to see if the 5G-supporting SoC can matchSnapdragon 865-powered rivals.
