Google Fit is getting a massive update, rolling out this week to Android users
June 22, 2025
Google Fithasn’t seen any major updates forover two years, but the company is changing that today. In partnership with the American Heart Association and World Health Organization, Google hasannounceda complete revamp of Google Fit that brings new motivation features and an all-new design.
First, let’s talk features. Google is introducinggamificationmeasures to help motivate users into exercising more often. Move Minutes, the first of the new features, awards you points pretty much anytime you move around. Walking up the stairs or even taking a walk down the street will award you Move Minutes.

Heart Points will be awarded to you for each minute of moderate activity. You’ll gain heart points by speed walking, running, kickboxing, biking, or anything else that gets yourheart rateup.
The company is also updating the Google Fit app’s design to be more in line with Google’s current design language. The app now sports the Google Sans font, as well as newMaterial Designcharacteristics we’ve seen in apps likeGoogle TasksandAndroid Messages.

Google Fit isn’t getting a total overhaul, though — it still has a lot of the same features that have been in the app for years. It’ll still automatically track your activity using your phone or Wear OS watch sensors, and you can still select specific workouts before you start exercising.
The timing of this Google Fit announcement makes sense. Google is expected to launch thePixel 3at an event this October, alongsideas many as three Pixel smartwatches. At least one of those watches will no doubt be focused on fitness — the perfect way to show off this new Google Fit app.
The new Google Fit update will start rolling out to Android phones and Wear OS devices this week. Don’t have it installed? you may download it at the link below, and check out the newGoogle Fit website here.
