Google Pixel 4 DxOMark score reveals a solid camera upgrade over Pixel 3

One of the key reasons people buy Pixel devices is the line’s outstanding camera performance. TheGoogle Pixel 4is no different, andDxOMark’s reviewof the device shows us why.
Werecently wrote an articleon why DxOMark scores aren’t the only opinions you should take into account when looking at smartphone cameras. But DxOMark still knows what it is talking about, and its reviews give us important insight into otherwise subjective camera quality.
The Pixel 4 scored an impressive 112 in DxOMark’s review, putting it within the top ten devices. The camera excels in regards to exposure, autofocus, and color, but it falls a little behind in texture and night performance.
This is a marginal upgrade over last year’s Pixel 3 score of 102, even though both devices received the same front-facing camera score of 92. Other than that, the Pixel 4 has noticeable improvements in most areas, especially in zoom photography quality.
On the other hand, even though thePixel 4sees better bokeh performance than the Pixel 3, it is still sub-par compared to competing devices like theHUAWEI Mate 30 Pro. Color accuracy, skin tone rendering, and white balance are the Pixel 4’s strongest areas.
This is the first time a Pixel device comes with more than one rear-facing camera sensor, but it still isn’t enough to put it on top. The lack of ultra-wide and time-of-flight (ToF) sensors negatively impacted the Pixel 4 score compared to other top-tier devices.
Overall, DxOMark reiterates much of what we said in ourPixel 4 review. It’s a superb camera with a lot going for it. It may not have received the highest DxOMark score, but Google still developed some software magic to make it a solid competitor.
