July 19, 2025

Epic Games is releasing the mega-popularFortnite for Androidin an unconventional way: it isbypassing the Google Play Store. The beta version of the battle royale game is live now forSamsung flagship owners, and will likely see a wider release next week.

Since the game will not be available on the Play Store,Googleis now warning gamers who search for the title that they won’t find Fortnite anywhere in the shop. This is likely to deter developers from creating apps with the word “Fortnite” in the title to take advantage of the confusion over the release.

The warning does not appear if you search for Fortnite onthe desktop version of the Play Store. This is likely because you’re able to’t install apps from the Play Store on your computer, so there’s no fear of you downloading something you didn’t mean to.
