HUAWEI FreeBuds Lite go stem-to-stem with AirPods 2

June 23, 2025

Huawei’s proddingtweet, “Thanks for the warm up Tim,” prepared us for the Chinese company to target Apple for its launch event. The release of the HUAWEI FreeBuds Lite true wireless earbuds is a timely one that directly competes with theAirPods 2.

While little is known about the FreeBuds Lite yet, HUAWEI CEO Richard Yu disclosed that the earbuds offer 12 hours of playback with the charging case and received anIPX4certification, meaning they may serve as a durableworkoutcompanion.

Remembering the FreeBuds

A year ago, the original FreeBuds made headlines as a viableAirPodscompetitor. HUAWEI mimicked the identifiable all-white stemmed design. Everything about the FreeBuds was eerily similar to the AirPods, save for the angled nozzles that permit a proper seal. Things seemed promising, but forums overflowed with talk ofconnectivity issues, rendering the earbuds useless — too light to even be a paperweight.

Hopefully, the HUAWEI FreeBuds Lite sings a lovely redemption song for the company, as the true wireless market is growing evermore saturated. At this point, being an AirPodscopydoesn’t cut it. The companies that are succeeding in the true wireless audio space are the ones withspecializedproducts oraffordablegeneral earbuds that undercut premium brands’ pricing.
