Huaweiconfirmed news last week that itsMate Xfoldable phone might not release in September, ostensibly so the firm can ensure the device is reliable and polished. But it also seems like the company delayed the release so it could upgrade the internals.

Neowinwent hands on with the Mate X in Shenzhen and reports that the foldable is now equipped with the HiSiliconKirin 990chipset. This processor hasn’t even been announced yet, but we’re expecting HUAWEI to announce it at IFA 2019 ahead of its integration into theMate 30series.

There’s no word on chipset details, but HUAWEI has been quick to adopt new Arm IP in recent years. So that means we can likely expect the Kirin 990 to offer brand-newCortex-A77CPU cores and aMali-G77GPU. We’d also expect the firm’s NPU to receive a noteworthy performance leap.

Neowinadds that the HUAWEI Mate X now uses anRYYBprimary camera sensor, in line with the P30 series. The RYYB camera enables better low-light image quality than traditional RGB camera sensors, according to HUAWEI. There’s no word if the Mate X offers theP30 Pro‘s 5x periscope camera.
