HUAWEI P20 Pro update brings Galaxy S9-like automatic slo-mo video

June 15, 2025

Huawei’s latest update for theHUAWEI P20 Proreportedly brings improvements to the camera, June’s security patch, and other optimizations. According to users ofXDA Developers(viaThe Android Soul), the software update has a build number of B131.

Perhaps most exciting are the reports of a mode that automatically starts the recording of 32x slow-motion video. As seen inthis Instagram video, when using this camera mode, a target box appears in the screen. The P20 Pro then automatically starts recording video when it detects movement inside the box. This is similar to a feature seen in theSamsung Galaxy S9and it should make it much easier for P20 Pro users to correctly time the recording of slow-motion video.

There has also been a change to the camera’s UI which has seen HUAWEI place the zoom button lower down on the display.

Finally, there was a suggestion that the selfie portrait mode has been improved. Although, as that was an observational change, it’s perhaps best to not get too excited about it until you have tested it out for yourself.

With its rear triple-lens arrangement, which includes a 40MP main sensor, theP20 Pro already boasts an impressive camera. However, it is good to see that HUAWEI is continuing to make adjustments to improve the photography experience for P20 Pro users.

As well as these changes and the June security patch, the update also includes optimizations for power consumption, the wallpaper display, and overall improvements to system performance and stability.

Currently, the only way to test out the update is by manually flashing it onto your device. If you want to do things the easy way and don’t mind waiting, however, HUAWEI will likely release an over-the-air update very soon.
