HUAWEI will update over 100 devices with Harmony OS
August 17, 2025
HUAWEI is determined to update as many devices as possible with Harmony OS, not just ship new hardware like theMatePad series. The Chinese tech giant has unveiled plans to upgrade over 100 phones, tablets, and smart screens with its latest software, and that includes some surprisingly old products.
You can expect HUAWEI to update not just recent products like theMate 40andP40 serieswith its Android 10 variant, but ‘classics’ dating back to theMate 9andP10— both well over four years old. You can also anticipate Harmony OS releases for many Nova models as well as “some” HONOR products released before late 2020, when the brandsplit from HUAWEI.

It could take a while before HUAWEI delivers an update to your favorite handset. Some products will start getting updates in June, including the P40, Mate 40, Mate 30, and certain MatePad Pro models.Mate XSusers, someMate 20owners, and those with numerous Nova and MatePad models will have to wait until the third quarter of the year, however. You’ll have to wait until the fourth quarter to get an update to yourP30 series, Mate 20 X or Mate X. And if you’re itching for an upgrade to an old device like the Mate 9 or P10, you’ll be waiting until the first half of 2022.

HUAWEI toldAndroid Authoritythat the Harmony OS update schedule only applies to hardware in China. There will be news on international rollouts if there’s more information available, according to a spokesperson.
Even so, the HUAWEI update plan is ambitious. The company is effectively creating a unified experience for most of the devices it shipped in the past few years — even fellow Android heavyweights like Samsungdon’t providethat kind of consistency. Harmony OS’ older Android 10 roots help (trying this withAndroid 12would be another story), but it could still be a welcome move if you were worried your mobile devices might be left behind.
