It’s been 3 weeks since Android 10 ‘rolled out’ to the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro
Aug 04, 2025
My current daily driver is theOnePlus 7 Proand before that, I owned theOnePlus 6T. Before that, it was theOnePlus 5, and on and on back to theOnePlus One. You could say I’m a fan of OnePlus phones.
However, I, and many others, are getting pretty frustrated with how the company is handling the rollout ofAndroid 10to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. Three weeks ago today, on September 21, the company announced on its official forums thata stable rollout of Android 10 was startingfor the OnePlus 7 series. This didn’t make OnePlus the first company to push a stable build of the latest version of Android to a handset, but proved it is stillone of the fastest companies in the industryin that metric.

As soon as the rollout began though, there were issues. Some people who were lucky enough to get the OTA notification on their phonesfound Android 10 to be buggy— not buggy enough that things don’t work, but certainly a step down from the usual polish we’ve seen on previousOxygen OSupdates.

Then there was the issue that most users didn’t see the update for days after the announcement. In fact, here we are three weeks later and there are stillpeople on Redditand on other OnePlus forums — includingthe official one— saying they are still onAndroid 9 Pie.
One week ago, we reached out to OnePlus to get some answers on what is going on with this rollout, butwe didn’t get a reply.

Slowest rollout in history?
Things became even more confusing when, earlier this week, OnePlus took to a stage in London to launch theOnePlus 7T Profor the first time (it also launched theOnePlus 7T, even though it already did that in India a week earlier). During that event, OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau gave us an update onwhen Android 10 will hit other OnePlus devices, going all the way back to the OnePlus 5.
Shortly thereafter, the company once againtook to its official forumsto post the following chart related to when you may expect Android 10 on your OnePlus handset:

It says right there in black and white: “rollout in progress.” If it is rolling out, why is it taking this long? Additionally, if it’s definitely still rolling out, why won’t OnePlus answer our questions about it?
Things get interesting when you head away from the official forums and instead hit up theXDA Developersforum dedicated to the OnePlus 7 Pro. There, you’ll find a post from user “Funk Wizard”who is one of the forum moderators. This user claims to have a direct line to OnePlus and has been correct with information in the past.
According to Funk Wizard, the rollout status of Android 10 for the OnePlus 7 series is paused. The user claims OnePlus knows the update is buggy and is fixing it up to then release a new version sometime this month, likely after the launches of the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro. Although Funk Wizard isn’t an official spokesperson for OnePlus, they are a credible source and what they say here makes perfect sense. As a OnePlus 7 Pro owner, I am completely fine with this explanation and will happily wait for Android 10 to land when it’s ready.
The only problem is that we’re not hearing this from OnePlus itself.
Tell us the truth, that’s what we’d rather hear
One of the big reasons why people buy OnePlus phones is because of how quickly it sends out updates and how long it supports its products. That’s a big reason I keep coming back, at least.
OnePlus also tends to listen to its users and treat them with respect. TheOnePlus Open Ears forums— where company reps gather with regular users to get feedback on its products — are a terrific example of this. Its “Never Settle” ethos is based on the idea that we, as consumers, should never settle for anything but the best. We are reminded of this over and over again during every OnePlus product launch.
If that’s all true, though, why won’t the company admit that the Android 10 rollout is paused? What’s the harm in that? Some people might get upset and a small group might even call out OnePlus for pushing the update out before it was ready just to keep its speedy reputation. However, I wouldn’t be writing this article if it did that. People on Reddit wouldn’t be askingoverandoverabout where the update went.
We even ran a poll here atAndroid Authoritywhich confirmed an overwhelming majority of our readershave no problem waiting a bitto get a stable release of the latest version of Android. They don’t want to wait too long, but they also have no problem waiting until things are relatively bug-free.
Just recently, Samsung announced thata beta of Android 10would roll out to Galaxy S10 devices in South Korea and the United States. It then stepped back and delayed that rollout. For both the rollout and the delay, the company officially announced what was happening on its community forums. I don’t know about you, but I haven’t seen any outrage online over this move. People are likely disappointed about the delay, but at least they know what’s happening.

Meanwhile, OnePlus is still — as of publishing this article — claiming that Android 10 for the OnePlus 7 series is in the process of rolling out. We are fairly certain it’s not, though. The lack of the Android 10 update on our phones wouldn’t be that upsetting to us, but getting told one thing while a totally different thing appears to be happening certainly is.
