Motorola ‘Odin’ tipped for release, packing Snapdragon 855, 5G Moto Mod

TheMoto Z3might be the least exciting smartphone of 2018, offering support for the upcoming5G Moto Modand little else. In fact, the decision to stick with the Snapdragon 835 chipset means the phone has outdated specifications compared to rival brands.
Now,XDA-Developershas revealed the existence of an upcomingMotorolaflagship codenamed ‘Odin’ — said to be the Motorola Moto Z4. The website, citing an unnamed source, says Odin will use a next-generation Snapdragon chipset (rumored to be calledSnapdragon 855), and will support the 5G Moto Mod.

It’s not known whether the upcoming phone will support legacy Moto Mods, however, especially as this would be the fourth generation of Moto smartphone. The companypreviously saidit would commit to Moto Mods for three generations.

The new device is said to feature 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and runAndroid Pie. But it’s believed that higher RAM and storage figures could be in development too. After all, the Moto Z3 was available with 64GB of expandable storage. Still, a 4GB/32GB model might not be a bad idea if it has a much cheaper price tag than rival flagships.
XDA‘s source says Motorola is indeed working on software forin-display fingerprint sensors, but it’s unclear whether Odin will indeed pack this feature. They wouldn’t be first to bring the feature to market, asVivo,Oppo,Huawei,Meizuand others have all adopted in-display sensors already.
It’s unclear if Odin would come to markets outside North America, although a Verizon model is apparently in the works. Hopefully the device comes to Motorola strongholds such as Latin America.
