Motorola’s 5G Razr may pack a sleeker design without a fingerprint reader

August 22, 2025

Motorola’s rumoredRazr sequelmay have emerged in earnest, and it appears that the2019 foldableis getting a design overhaul.

Well-known leak purveyor Evan Blass has shared an imageon his Patreonthat reportedly shows the new clamshell phone, codenamed “Odyssey.” It still has the familiar basic design (including the external display), but the chin appears to be conspicuously smaller and doesn’t include a visible fingerprint reader. Unless Motorola has moved the reader, that could hint at face detection or removing biometrics altogether.

The imagery also suggests a change to the external camera, but there aren’t any clear indicators of what has changed.

Previous rumors have conflicted over possible changes to screen size (it doesn’t appear obviously bigger here), but there have been hints at a major performance upgrade. The new Razr could ship with a much newerSnapdragon 765chip, 5G support, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a somewhat expanded 2,845mAh battery. It might also leap to a 48MP primary camera and a 20MP front-facing cam.

There’s still no word on pricing, although there’s certainly pressure to undercut the $1,500 price for the first-generation Razr.

The real question may be availability. While Blass’ leak describes the phone as a “Motorola Razr 2020,” there have been concerns that the COVID-19 pandemic could push the launch to early 2021. That would still put it on a yearly schedule when the first model didn’t ship until early 2020. However, Motorola would also miss its chance to compete more directly with theGalaxy Z Flip 5Gand the usual crop of fall flagships.
