Niantic will try throwing three Pokémon Go events in Germany, Chicago, and Japan

August 17, 2025

Niantic, the company that created the mobile game sensationPokémon Go, just announced three new Pokémon Go events to happen around the globe this summer. The Pokémon Go Summer Tour 2018 will hit Dortmund, Germany; Chicago, United States; and Yokosuka, Japan.

Last year,Niantic held a Pokémon Go eventin Chicago called Pokémon Go Fest 2017. The event was a disaster, to put it mildly, with players arriving to find that the Chicago servers couldn’t handle the massive workload the event created. The result was 20,000 Pokémon Go fans standing around Grant Park unable to play the game they had come to play.

Niantictried to make amendsby refunding ticket costs, adding $100 in PokéCoins to visitor’s accounts, and giving away rare Pokémon. However, that didn’t stop visitors suing Niantic. The company settled that lawsuit to the tune of $1.5 million.

Since the Grant Park incident, Niantic has held other Pokémon Go events in Japan, Korea, and Europe that were, according to the company, successful and “record-setting.”

With these three new events, it appears Niantic is ready to wash away the painful memories of that Grant Park festival. Hopefully, this time it is prepared for the turnout.
