June 03, 2025

Last week’s poll summary:Out ofover 8,700 total votes, the messaging app used by 37.2% ofAndroid Authorityreaders is WhatsApp, followed by Facebook Messenger with 17.4%. 15.5% of readers said they only use SMS, followed by Google Hangouts with 6.4%, Google Allo with 6%, and Telegram with 5.9%.

WhenApplemakes a bold design choice, other OEMs follow.

Apple removed the headphone jack, and so did Android phone makers. Apple introduced Face ID, now many companies are in the process ofswitching to face recognition. Apple introduced the notch with theiPhone X, and we should expect many Android phones in 2018to launch with the same thing.

In fact, rumor has itthat Android P, the next major version of Android, will be designed with the iPhone X-like notch in mind. Google knows Android phone makers are going toadopt the notch, and it wants Android to look good on those handsets. It’s a smart move on Google’s part, but it’s a move that smartphone fans are going to debate for years to come.

Which side are you on? Would you be okay with the notch if that meant smaller bezels, or would you rather have some bezel if it meant your display didn’t have a notch? We asked this questionback in September, but it’s certainly worth revisiting now that Google might actually be developing Android around these notch-touting phones. Cast your vote in the poll attached below, and speak up in the comments if there’s anything you’d like to add.
