Of course there’s a triple selfie camera smartphone on the horizon

LG,Huawei, andSamsunghave all delivered reartriple camera setupson smartphones this year, but what if you wanted three selfie cameras instead? Well, a new regulatory filing might be music to your ears.
According to afilingon China’s TENAA website, selfie-focused mobile brandMeituis readying a smartphone (codenamed MP1801) with five cameras. Unlike the penta-cameraLG V40 ThinQ, however, the new phone has three cameras on the front and two cameras on the rear.

The triple selfie camera setup features 12MP, 20MP and 8MP snappers. We don’t have more selfie camera details, but we can reasonably expect a standard front-facing camera and a wide-angle shooter for group shots. In fact, both Google’sPixel 3and LG V40 offer wide-angle secondary selfie cameras, allowing you to cram more people or more of a landscape into the scene. The third camera could potentially be used for depth effects or improved low-light snaps.
On the back and we’ve got a 12MP and 8MP pairing. We don’t have more details but, if it’s anything like the Meitu V6, we can expect the secondary shooter to handle depth-sensing.
What else can we expect?
In terms of sheer horsepower, the phone is coming with an unnamed octa-core chipset (2.6Ghz and 1.7Ghz), 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of storage. Other noteworthy specs include a 6.21-inch OLED screen (2,248 x 1,080), a 3,400mAh battery, a fingerprint scanner, and noheadphone jack.
We were pretty impressed with the company’s previous offering, praising the selfie experience in ourMeitu V6 review. Specifically, formerAndroid Authorityreviewer Joshua Vergara noted the “staggering” accuracy of the camera app and its filters.
“Putting aside the ridiculousness of having this amount of makeup on my own face, the camera and the app actually did a hell of a job,” he said.
