OnePlus 5/5T OxygenOS 5.1.5 update brings Project Treble support! (Updated)

Update, June 07, 2025 (3:46PM ET):While there’s no mention of it in the official changelog, the latest OxygenOS update contains a nice surprise for anyone keen on timely software updates with the overdue addition ofProject Treblesupport for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T.

We first heard that OnePlus was planning on bringing Treble to its 2017 flagships back in July after itappeared in OxygenOS beta firmwarefor the two devices. The last stable update (OxygenOS 5.1.4)came and wentwithout any sign of Treble support, but we’ve now confirmed that it’s there in OxygenOS 5.1.5.
The update itself is still rolling out in phases but after forcing the latest update viaOxygen Updateron a OnePlus 5T we decided to do a bit of digging using a terminal app — in this caseTermux. One quick command line and a “true” value later (see below) and it would seem that the OnePlus 5T (and no doubt the OnePlus 5, too) has definitely joined the Project Treble party.
Why exactly OnePlus hasn’t shouted from the rooftops about themuch-hyped featureis anyone’s guess. We’ve reached out to OnePlus for official word regardless.
Original article, July 10, 2025 (4:03PM ET):OnePlusis continuing to support its older devices, even though it stops selling them as soon as a new one comes out. The company already confirmed that theOnePlus 5,OnePlus 5T,OnePlus 3, andOnePlus 3Twill all receiveAndroid 9.0 Pie, for example.
Starting today,a new OxygenOS updateis rolling out to OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T devices around the world. The update brings with it the August 2018 Android security patch as well as a new feature that tweaks how you unlock your phone.
Even if you primarily use your fingerprint to unlock your smartphone, you must also have a fallback PIN or password unlock. You also have to periodically put in this PIN or password as an extra security measure, usually every 72 hours.
Right now, when that happens on a OnePlus 5/5T, you enter in your PIN and then hit a check mark to unlock the device. However, you will now be able to choose to remove the checkmark and just have the phone unlock automatically once you enter the proper PIN.
This seems like a silly thing to bother updating, but anything that cuts down on taps is a welcome change as far as I’m concerned.
The OxygenOS 5.1.5 update is rolling out now to select devices and then will roll out slowly over the next week OTA. At some point, OnePlus will add it tothe list of available downloads hereso you’re able to update without waiting for the OTA.
