OPPO flaunts new contactless charging tech on its rollable phone

It’s clear that smartphone makers are moving towards a completely wireless charging experience. Xiaomi recently showed off itsMi Air charging solution, followed by asimilar announcement from Motorola. Now, OPPO hasreleaseda 30-second clip (see below) that shows its rollable concept phone charging wirelessly in the air.
OPPO had mentioned the new wireless charging tech yesterday ina press releaseteasing its MWC Shanghai announcements. The company explains that it uses “magnetic resonance.”
“Charging begins as soon as the device gets within a few inches of the charging mat, and users can even play games while they wirelessly charge,” OPPO writes on its MWC Shanghaimicrosite.
The company hasn’t offered any more details, but tipster Digital Chat Stationclaimsit can reach up to 7.5W speeds. The demo video shows the OPPO X 2021 rollable phone getting juiced up mid-air when lifted off the charging mat. Sure enough, OPPO is calling the tech “Wireless Air Charging.”
There’s also a tweet showing OPPO’s new contact-less charging in play. The company says that the new tech works “on or off-axis with the charger.”
Unlike Xiaomi’s solution, OPPO’s new charging method doesn’t seem like it has a wide coverage area. Mi Air Charge is designed to allow remote air-to-air charging within a radius of several meters. OPPO’s tech looks more restricted to the area above a wireless charging mat.
Nevertheless, we’re waiting for OPPO to share more details about its plans. For all you know, its tech is faster, more efficient, and ready to deploy, unlike Xiaomi’s offering which won’t see the light of day anytime soon.
