Samsung brings the Note 7’s Always on Display software to the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge

Samsung’sGalaxy Note 7may bediscontinued, but that doesn’t mean some of its unique software features are going away.

If you happen to own aGalaxy S7orS7 Edge, a new update to the Always on Display should be waiting for you inside the Galaxy Apps store. Released just a few days ago, version 1.4.02 of the Always on Display brings a number of new customization options that were previously only available on the Note 7.

So what’s new in this update? For starters, v1.4.02 replaces two of the existing calendar themes with an all-new calendar option. There’s also a new digital clock that lets you add your own custom text signature, which can be customized with a different font or color. In addition, Always on Display can now show your currently playing music track. Samsung also says Always on Display now takes up less than 1% of battery every hour.

Plenty more customization features and enhancements are present in this update, though there are too many to list here. It’s worth noting that many folks have beenreporting broken featuresin this initial release. To grab the update, head toSettings>Display>Always On Display> About Always On Display>Update.

If you still need to return your Note 7, the S7 or S7 Edge are two phones you should definitely check outif you’re looking for a replacement. They may not have an S Pen or many fancy note-taking features, but they are similar enough.
