Samsung ‘DeX Live’ patent suggests wireless DeX on the way

June 02, 2025

In apatent applicationdated yesterday with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (viaGSM Arena), Samsung filed a new trademark for something called “Samsung DeX Live.” While the application doesn’t explicitly say what the new product does, it’s not hard to imagine what it might be.

We’re relatively certain DeX Live refers to a wirelessDeX platform. This is alogical next stepfor Samsung, being as the first two iterations of DeX involveddocks, and the newest iteration only involves aUSB-C-to-HDMI cableon theSamsung Galaxy Note 9andGalaxy S10.

Theoretically, Samsung DeX Live could allow a user to wirelessly connect with a monitor, on which the DeX desktop layout would appear. Since you may already use Bluetooth to connect a keyboard and mouse to Samsung phones, one could then access Samsung DeX Live without the need for any cables at all.

Of course, for this to work, one would need some sort of wireless receiver to get plugged into the monitor or a monitor capable of connecting to a wireless network. Since the latter isn’t too common, the former is more likely the plan. This receiver could be something as simple as aChromecast, but it’s far more likelySamsungwill sell its own dongle or possibly package it with certain smartphones.

Speaking of smartphones, the next big flagship from the company will be theSamsung Galaxy Note 10(which may or may not be its name). If Samsung DeX Live is what we think it is, it’s a relatively good bet the Note 10 launch would be our first look at the new platform.

In related news,Android Q beta 3has a desktop mode very similar to DeX. you’re able to check out what that could potentially look like in the link below.
