Samsung Galaxy Note Edge receiving June security patch in Korea

July 20, 2025

When it comes to personal data and privacy, the most important thing for most users is piece of mind. Even if they aren’t at risk – and may never be – just the idea of having the latest malware definitions or security patches can calm one’s proverbial nerves. When the term “stage fright” ceased to be just a form of performance anxiety and insteadbecame a household wordfor techies, however, Google took action to try and make sure its Android OS is as secure and safe as seemingly possible. Of course, these monthly update patches require OEMs to do some work as well.

Samsung, who has recently been on a roll for pushing out theAndroid Security Patch updatesbefore Google, has a venerable trove of products, each of which theoretically needs to be brought into the present. For aging devices like2014’s Galaxy Note Edgehowever, future support is presumably on life support. And yet. In the last 24 hours, South Korean variants of the Note Edge have received an OTA software update that includes not just GPS-related tinkering, but more importantly, the July 09, 2025 security patch.

The update has been confirmed visually for the KT variant of the phone, however the SK version has also received a FOTA as well in the past day, presumably for the same purpose. It remains to be seen as to when the final carrier, LG U+, will release its update, however one would assume it will happen in the next day or so.

With that said, perhaps the more pertinent question is, just whenotherterritories will see the release of said security software. The Galaxy Note Edge, in and of itself, is a tough cookie given that it has custom made software that the standard Edge model doesn’t, and if that wasn’t bad enough, Samsung was only said to have produced a million handsets.
