Samsung Galaxy S10 could feature a triple camera and 3D sensor
June 17, 2025
The Samsung Galaxy S10, the company’s yet-to-be-announced 2019 flagship, may arrive with a triple rear-camera setup. Market analysts in Korea (viaThe Investor) speculate that Samsung would include the feature to “reinvigorate its smartphone business” after disappointing demand for theSamsung Galaxy S9.
The Investor‘s coverage suggests that the Galaxy S10 may also be the first Samsung device to feature a 3D sensor. This could assist the device’s AR capabilities — the likes of which we’ve previously seen with theGalaxy S9’s AR Emojis— and allow areas to be mapped in 3D (find out possibility here).

Samsung isn’t expected to release the Galaxy S10 before February next year so we’re still many months away. As such, all this speculation should be treated as… well, speculation. A triple camera setup could be a good fit for the Galaxy S10, however.
Giving it a third camera would clearly differentiate the device from previous Galaxy S phones and a smartphone market where evenbudget phones come equippedwith dual camera setups. Samsung expects weak demand for theGalaxy S9 later this year, in part due to increasing competition in the sector, but a triple camera (combined with theexpected in-display fingerprint scanner) could help the potentially upcoming device become a stand out product.

Samsung isn’t the only company that seems to be interested in triple cameras. The first big triple camera Android phone, theHUAWEI P20 Prowas released earlier this year. Meanwhile, there are rumors that Apple is going toinclude a triple-camera setupon the rumored iPhone X Plus. It looks like the industry is heading in this direction.
Considering thefocus Samsung has put on both the camera qualityof its devices and its recent attempts to addAR capabilities, it makes sense that the company might include a feature that improves both areas.

The article mentioned another reason that Samsung may be keen for the market to head towards triple cameras. As a major supplier of parts including camera modules and sensors, Samsung would be in a good position to benefit from any trend that requires more camera parts. The Investorsays that Samsung Electro-Mechanics saw operating profits rise by 1,155 percent in 2017 due to the dual-camera system found in theGalaxy Note 8.
The Investorhas been right about rumors concerning upcoming Korean devices before. At the end of last year, it accurately predicted that the Galaxy S9 would not feature anin-display fingerprint sensor, though that speculation had come up elsewhere. It alsoreported early on the rethinkthat the LG went through in relation to theLG G7earlier this year.
