Samsung Galaxy S20 phones are first to get new USB fast charging certification
August 08, 2025
We’ve seen a variety of fast charging solutions these days from the likes ofOppo,Huawei, andSamsung. All of these brands have touted safety measures, but it looks like only Samsung can claim USB fast charger certification from theUSB Implementers Forum(USB-IF).
Yes, the Galaxy S20 series has become the first smartphone series to achieve “Certified USB Fast Charger” status (h/t:The Verge). This includes certification for Programmable Power Supply (PPS) feature and USB-Power Delivery 3.0.

This certification means that theGalaxy S20 seriesshould be able to play nicely with other certified fast chargers. Furthermore, PPS allows a device to request changes in voltage and current from the charger, which should result in cooler charging.
It’s worth noting that theGalaxy Note 10 Plusalso supported PPS and USB-PD 3.0 for 45W charging, but it didn’t achieve “Certified USB Fast Charger” status as it apparently didn’t meet all requirements.

We’re glad to see the Samsung Galaxy S20 series certified nonetheless, as it theoretically means faster, safer charging. Hopefully we see more smartphone brands and third-party chargers with this support, as it could simplify and standardize fast charging in a big way.
