Samsung producing UFS 3.1 storage, expected in flagships later this year
June 16, 2025
TheUFS 3.0storage standard has found its way into many high-end smartphones, such as theGalaxy S20series, OnePlus’s 2019 devices, and theXiaomi Mi 10family.
Samsungis gearing up for the future though, and it’sannouncedthat it’s now producing 512GB eUFS 3.1 storage. In fact, Samsung claims the new standard delivers three times the write speed of UFS 3.0 and breaches the 1GBps barrier.

“Phones with the new eUFS 3.1 will only take about 1.5 minutes to move 100GB of data whereas UFS 3.0-based phones require more than four minutes,” the company notes, adding that it’s also up to 60% faster than UFS 3.0 when it comes to random performance.
The manufacturer points to the new storage standard as being a boon for8Kvideos and large size photos. And with theSnapdragon 865flagship processor sporting 8K recording capabilities, support for 200MP cameras, and “unlimited”960fps super slow mo, it certainly seems like faster storage is becoming a priority.

Samsung has confirmed that 512GB UFS 3.1 storage production is underway, and that it will also offer 128GB and 256GB options for “flagship smartphones that will be launched later this year.” In other words, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to assume that the Galaxy Note 20 and possibly theGalaxy Fold 2will have this new storage standard.
