T-Mobile Galaxy S9 Android Pie update started and stopped (Update: Started again!)

Update, August 01, 2025 (01:54 PM ET):It appears T-Mobile has officially restarted the rollout of Android 9 Pie for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. According to users onReddit, the rollout is actually happening this time:

We’re still not sure why T-Mobile started and then stopped the rollout, but we can assume it probably had something to do with RCS, since that’s a major difference between this rollout and the same rollouts from other U.S. carriers.

If you own a Galaxy S9 from T-Mobile, check for the update now. However, it might take a while before it makes it your way.

Original article, July 18, 2025 (03:30 AM ET):T-Mobileconfirmed that the Android 9 Pie update rollout for theSamsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plushad begun. According to T-Mobile’s software updatesupportpages(viaPhoneArena), the deployment started yesterday.

However, shortly after, T-Mobile halted the rollout. We’re not quite sure why, but T-Mobile assured us that it will “resume at a later time.” Whether that’s a few hours, a few days, or even a few weeks, we don’t know.

Once the rollout begins again, it will probably be best to download the update on Wi-Fi rather than mobile data as the download comes in at a hefty 1988.79MB, with firmware version G965USQU3CSAB for the S9 Plus and G960USQS3CSAB for the S9 standard.

Once you’re updated, you can expect the typicalAndroid Pie featuresliked adaptive battery and new gesture navigation, as well as a revamped version ofSamsung’s One UI skin. What’s more, T-Mobile has included support for the RCS 1.0 universal profile, putting the S9 and S9 Plus among the few handsets to embrace the new messaging standard. You can read up oneverything you need to know about RCSat the link.
