The Google Pixel’s February 2019 update includes more than just security
July 14, 2025
Yesterday, Pixel owners were happy to learn that Google is pushing out theFebruary security patchto their devices. What they didn’t know is that the update surprisingly includes some new user-facing changes and features, reported9to5Google.
First up is theAbout phonesection, which is now its own section and sits aboveTips & supportin the main Settings screen. Previously,About phonewas the first option in theSystemsection.

In addition to being its own main section,About phonealso includes a newSafety & regulatory manualoption. The new option provides a copy of the printed Safety & Warranty booklet that’s included with every device.
The changes don’t stop there — the Settings menu features a new layout and icons. The colorful icons are a nice reprieve from the all-white background that Google goes for with its updatedMaterial Designaesthetic.

You can also schedule a device restart after you download and install an update. Kind of.
The software keeps in mind whether the device is in use or idle. As such, any update you get will pause if you’re using your device and visit theSystem updatessection. You can manually resume the download and even tap the newRestart after 2:00AMoption on the bottom left once the update is done.

Selecting the new option restarts your device between 2:00AM and 4:00AM your time. You can’t yet pick any time you want, but we’re hoping that becomes an option with a future update.
The February security patch is now rolling out to supported Pixel devices and theEssential Phone.
