The Samsung Galaxy J2 (2018) leaks with huge bezels and budget specs

July 20, 2025

Samsung is the biggest phone manufacturer in the world. The key to its success hasn’t just been producing great flagship phones, but solid phones throughout its entire lineup. The recently announcedGalaxy A8 seriesare two great mid-range phones that offer flagship design with mid-tier specs. TheGalaxy Jline focuses on the budget end of the spectrum and is popular in emerging markets likeIndia. We’re nowgetting our first lookat the newest entry into the Galaxy J lineup, the Samsung Galaxy J2 (2018).

Unfortunately for those who were looking for a redesign fromlast year’s Galaxy J2, the design looks pretty familiar. The J2 has pretty sizable bezels on both the sides of the display, as well as above and below it. This time around, the display itself sees a bump up in size from 4.7 inches to 5 inches. While a bigger display might sound great, Samsung kept the same 960 x 540 resolution, which drops the pixel density to 234 PPI. Ouch.

The rest of the specs are pretty standard for entry-level devices. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, 1.5 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of storage. The battery capacity sits at 2,600 mAh, which combined with the low-resolution Super AMOLED display, should provide decent battery life.

The rear of the device houses an 8 MP primary camera, while the front-facing shooter comes in at 5 MP. Both cameras have a dedicated flash— a nice bonus on a cheaper device like this. If you were hoping forAndroid Oreo, prepare to be disappointed— the Samsung Galaxy J2 (2018) will launch withAndroid 7.1.1 Nougatinstead.

All of this can be yours for the low price of $135. While that sounds pretty cheap, keep in mind that companies like Xiaomi sell devicesfor roughly $100in countries likeIndia. It’ll be interesting to see if the Galaxy J2 (2018) can put Samsung back out in front, ofXiaomi will continue to surge.
