Think Droid Turbo’s battery is big? Gionee Marathon M3 packs a massive 5,000mAh battery
June 30, 2025
Ever sinceMotorola‘s recent announcement of theDroid Turbo, our expectations for battery life have instantly risen. Sure, the phone is a bit thick (10.6-11.2mm depending on the model), but it has one massive 3,900mAh battery. More often than not, users that have a giant battery would sacrifice a thicker body for all-day battery life. Users may not have to sacrifice form over function anymore, at least when they buy the newest from Gionee.
TheMarathon M3 from Gioneeboasts an incredibly huge battery while still remaining thin. The dimensions come in at 144.5 x 71.45 x 10.4mm (that’s .2mm thinner than the metalized fiber variant of the Turbo), and a5,000mAh battery. The size and battery size are definitely the selling points of the phone, as the other specs could use a bit of work, comparatively. The Marathon M3 also brings a 5-inch 720p display, a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM, along with 3G connectivity. An 8MP rear-facing camera, 2MP front-facing camera, dual-SIM support are also present, along with Android 4.4 KitKat and Gionee’s Amigo 2.0 UI.

The Marathon M3 is exclusive to India for Rs. 12,999 (roughly $210). Gionee doesn’t really have a huge market in the west, so it’s likely that the device will never make it over to the States.
The giant batteries of today’s phones suffer largely because of the screen resolution. The combination between a 5,000mAh battery and a 720p display should make it be able to run… marathons. Suffice it to say, we don’t often see a device this thin that still has such a big battery. Of course, the rest of the specs aren’t exactly anything to write home about. Still, it drives home a point: battery life is important folks, and it’s not impossible to bring a bigger battery and a thin, (reasonably) attractive design.
