Additional retailers

If visiting a Verizon store is not your cup of tea, you can visit your local Best Buy to purchase the Moto Z2 Play. Carrier exclusivity remains with Verizon, however, so if you want the phone to play nice with AT&T or T-Mobile towers, you will want to wait for the unlocked version.

Similar to Verizon, Best Buy also knocked some dollars off the amount you will pay for the Moto Z2 Play if you opt for monthly payments, but not as much as Big Red. Even so, you can buy the device outright for the same $408, so it comes down to whether a Verizon or Best Buy store is closest to you.

Of course, if you want to get it directly from Motorola, you are more than welcome to. The Verizon and unlocked versions of the Moto Z2 Play are available for purchase, but you will have to wait until August 18 to get your hands on the latter.

There are two major reasons to opt for the unlocked version, the first being that it will work on all four major U.S. networks. Verizon might give you a bit of a headache, but there are few phones that work across Big Red, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. The second benefit is you get 64 GB of storage, which is double what you get on the Verizon variant.

Still, buying the Verizon variant of the Moto Z2 Play carries a nifty benefit: a free JBL SoundBoost 2 Moto Mod. you may also purchase the phone outright for $408, a good bit cheaper than the unlocked version’s $499 asking price. Regardless of the version, the phone can be financed through Affirm.
