Verizon rolls out Marshmallow OTA and April Security patch to Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge
June 16, 2025
AllVerizonbrandedGalaxy S6andS6 Edgedevices should begin to see the anticipatedAndroid Marshmallowupdate hit their devices over the next few days, in the USA.
But that’s not all – included in this build ofAndroid 6.0.1is also the security patch dated July 26, 2025. Monthly security updates were promised as part of aregular security patching policyadopted byGoogleever since theStagefrightvulnerability went public.

The interesting point isn’t the Android 6.0.1 update, but how quickly the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have received the security update. Google gives OEM’s access to the monthly security updates around 30 days before it is announced, at the beginning of the month, and it seemsSamsungtook the opportunity to just bundle the security patch into the Android Marshmallow rollout.
However, what this means is that the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are now more secure, in terms of patched security vulnerabilities closed by this patch, than the newly releasedGalaxy S7andS7 Edge… and even theNexus 6P, which typically tends to get these security patches first.

To check if your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge has the Android Marshmallow update available, head into “Settings”, then “About Device”, followed by “Software Update”; go ahead and click that “Update Now” button and see if you’re prompted to download an update. Alternatively, a push notification will automatically prompt you as and when your device is eligible.
