We asked, you told us: Your favorite version of Android is the latest release
July 14, 2025
There have been loads of Android versions over the years since the original 1.0 release, with each bringing important features and changes to the table.
DoAndroid Authorityreaders have a favorite version of Android though? That’s what we wanted to find out when weposted a polllast week. Here’s how you voted in that survey.

What’s your favorite version of Android?
Over 2,100 votes were counted after we posted the poll on January 12, and it turns out that 36% of respondents saidAndroid 12was their favorite version of Android. This was the runaway favorite, with second-placed Android 11 accounting for 17.4%.
Rounding out the top three is Android 10, accounting for 10.45% of the votes. In other words, the three most recent Android versions all made up the top three.
We’re guessing there’s some recency bias here or that many voters didn’t have a smartphone until recent years. Of course, the other alternative is that many polled readers actually experienced plenty of other Android versions but still think Android 12 is their favorite.
We can understand choosing Android 12 though, as it introduces the Material You aesthetic along with new widgets, revised quick settings tiles, more privacy tweaks, a one-handed mode, and scrolling screenshots (finally). So there are plenty of reasons for it to garner votes.
Every Android version from Pie and earlier received less than 5% of the vote, with the exception of KitKat (6.1%) and Lollipop (5.9%) which accounted for fourth and fifth places respectively.
