Xiaomi has shipped 100 million smartphones in India

Xiaomi, one of the fastest-growing smartphone players in India, has announced that it has crossed 100 million shipments in the region. Even more impressive is the fact that the company managed to achieve this within the first five years of operations in India. Predictably, theRedmi Noteand entry-level A series have been responsible for driving maximum volumes.
Withsales slowing downin the company’s home market of China, India has projected the largest growth potential. Xiaomi has been theleading smartphone brandin the country for the last eight quarters based on IDC data.
“It’s indeed a joyous occasion for us at Xiaomi India. It’s a testament to the love we have received from millions of Mi Fans since our inception. There have been brands who entered the market before us, yet are nowhere close to the astounding feat we have achieved,” said Xiaomi vice-president Manu Jain in an emailed press statement. The company took to Twitter to reveal a brand film to celebrate the achievement.
Xiaomi reportedly enjoyed a 28% market share in India inQ2 2019, withSamsungfollowing up closely with a 25% share. The latter has been ramping up its offensive against Xiaomi with asteady spateof smartphone launches.Realme, another Chinese brand, has also been rapidly closing the gap and was one of the fastest-growing players in Q2 2019.
With competing devicesmatching up in valueandinnovation, it will be interesting to see if Xiaomi is able to sustain its momentum. The company will no doubt be hoping that the Indian-boundRedmi Note 8series gives it a bigger slice of the pie.
