Xiaomi users report random boot loops, fix coming next week
June 16, 2025
SomeXiaomiphones in India are boot looping after installing a recentMIUI 12update. Now, it seems that the culprit has been identified and thankfully it’s not hardware-related.
A software conflict between Xiaomi’s Find My Device service and Airtel’s Thanks SIM management app (h/t:XDA) is seemingly to blame. The nature of the issue is unclear, but affected users have reported error messages on their devices followed by continuous boots. According to users onReddit, a number of Xiaomi phones are currently affected including the Redmi Note 7, Note 9 Pro Max, and POCO M2 Pro.

Airtel’s CIOHarmeen Mehtahas confirmed that the issue seemingly lies with the Thanks app, and the Indian mobile network is working with Xiaomi on a concrete fix. It has issued a “small tweak” in the meantime to lessen the ill effects.
Xiaomi says a more permanent fix is expected to be available “early next week,” while some users may be required to get the fix at their closest service centers.

For now, there doesn’t seem to be a permanent workaround. Some troubleshooters are unable to access settings quickly enough between boots. Those with quicker fingers or slower devices suggest uninstalling the Airtel Thanks app or removing their SIM cards to solve the problem.
