You can now manually choose to activate night mode on Galaxy S10 cameras

June 26, 2025

With theSamsung Galaxy S10 series, Samsung introduced a new camera feature called Bright Night which makes low-light photography better, similar toGoogle’s Night Sighton theGoogle Pixel 3.

Bright Night would turn on automatically if your Galaxy S10 determined the scene was dark enough to warrant it. However, if it didn’t, the feature wouldn’t activate.

Now,Samsungis changing that by rolling out a new update to Samsung Galaxy S10 devices around the world that allows users to manually turn on the night mode regardless of how dark the scene might be (viaSamMobile).

Although we haven’t tested it ourselves yet, it appears this manual night mode and Bright Night will deliver the same photographic results — the only real difference is users can now control whether the feature is on or off.

It’s curious that Samsung didn’t allow users to control Bright Night right from the beginning, as night modes on devices from other OEMs all do, including the Pixel 3, theOnePlus 6T, and theHUAWEI Mate 20 Pro.

So far, the update carrying the new camera feature has only landed on Samsung Galaxy S10 devices in Switzerland, but devices around the world should see it soon. The update also carries along with it theApril 2019 Android security patch. If you want to manually check for the update, head toSettings > Software Update > Download and Installon your Galaxy S10 phone to check for the update’s arrival.
