You may have to wait a bit longer to buy the Galaxy Fold 2 (Update: Or do you?)

Update, July 06, 2025 (1:46AM ET):Leaker Max Weinbach alleged earlier this week that the Galaxy Fold 2 (aka Galaxy Z Fold 2) wouldn’t be launched at Samsung’s Unpacked event on August 5.
Now, Weinbach and display industry insider Ross Young havebothclaimedthat the device will launch at Unpacked after all. Young also states that the new foldable might only ship in early October for the latest.
In other words, it looks like you could be in for a two-month-long wait between the Galaxy Fold 2 reveal and actual availability. But between ultra-thin glass, a 120Hz internal screen, and a bigger external display, therumored specspoint to a pretty significant upgrade on paper.
Original article, August 12, 2025 (3:15AM ET):You may have to settle for just oneSamsungfoldable at Unpacked this year. TheGalaxy Fold 2, rumored to be called the Galaxy Z Fold 2, may not launch at the company’s online-only launch event on August 5 according toXDA-Developerswriter Max Weinbach.
Weinbachbelievesthe device’s software and hardware aren’t ready. The device is reportedly still being tested by carriers. Weinbach explains that the device can’t launch without the backing of carriers and a concrete price.
“My guess is we’ll get a teaser at the end with the date of like a September launch. At this point, it’s not launching until at least October,” headds. This echoes hisprevious exchangewith display industry insider Ross Young, who believed in June that production of the Fold 2 will only begin in August.
There’s good news for theGalaxy Z Flip 5Gthough. Weinbachnotesthat the device has entered user testing. There aren’t many fundamental changes between the Z Flip and Z Flip 5G, so the foldable phone could make its debut at Unpacked alongside theGalaxy Note 20.
Despite Weinbach’s solid track record, you should also consider that he isn’t the person launching the device. Samsung will likely still showcase the phone at the event but if the Galaxy Fold’sdelayed launchis any indication, you may not be able to buy it for a while yet.
