You told us: You plan to cancel Netflix after North America price hike

Netflix caused a stir over the weekend when it announced that it would beinstituting a price hikein Canada and the US. The price increase means that US customers in particular will now pay $9.99 a month for the basic tier, $15.49 for the standard package, and $19.99 for the top-end option.
We wondered just how many people would be annoyed enough by the price hike to actually cancel their subscriptions, so weposed this questionon Monday. Here’s how you voted in this poll.

Over 1,200 votes were counted as of writing, and it turns out that close to half of all respondents said they indeed planned to cancel theirNetflixsubscriptions.
Meanwhile, 36% of polled readers say they don’t plan to cancel their Netflix subscriptions after this price hike. Aside from the obvious reason that these voters might be happy with the content and price they’re paying, one reader comment notes that their carrier pays for their plan.
Finally, 15% of respondents said they had already canceled Netflix prior to the price hike. One reader noted that they previously canceled their account in favor of the ESPN, Hulu, and Disney Plus bundle, citing a desire for new content and earlier Netflix price hikes.
In other words, almost 65% of polled readers say they plan to cancel their Netflix account due to this price hike or have canceled it prior to the increase.
